# IT Support for Beauty Salons in Dubai

Front-desk speed, retail stock, commission tracking and client records for salons, parlours and barbershops across Dubai.

Quick answer

A salon lives or dies on how fast the front desk moves. Bookings, walk-ins, retail products and stylist commission all run through one counter, usually while somebody is waiting. Salon IT means a till and diary that respond immediately, stock that matches reality, and client records that are actually private.

> We needed a custom ERP and HR system for our business, along with a new website, and Listonics helped us with all three. The team was approachable, listened to what we wanted and made the process easier than we expected. We could discuss changes directly with them, which made a big difference. It was also convenient having one team handle everything instead of dealing with multiple companies. Overall, we’re happy with how things turned out and glad we chose them.

Listonics projects run from AED 2,500 to AED 30,000 as a fixed scope; support is a fixed monthly fee with response times written into the agreement. The [IT support cost guide](https://listonics.com/it-support-cost-dubai/) and [managed IT pricing guide](https://listonics.com/managed-it-services-pricing-dubai/) set out how the numbers are built.

## Why is a salon harder to run than a shop?

A shop sells products. A salon sells a stylist's time, sells products alongside it, and pays commission on both, then does it again for a walk-in who was never in the diary. Every transaction touches three systems at once: the appointment, the till and the staff member's earnings. When those three disagree, somebody spends an evening reconciling them by hand.

That is why the front desk is the real IT problem. It is the busiest point in the business, it is staffed by whoever is free, and it is where a slow computer costs money directly, because the queue is standing in front of it.

## What does the front desk actually need?

- A computer that wakes and logs in quickly, not one that takes a minute while a client waits.

- The diary and the till on the same screen, so a walk-in can be added and charged without switching systems.

- A card terminal on its own network segment, separate from guest Wi-Fi.

- A receipt printer and a label printer that work without being restarted.

- Named logins per staff member, so bookings, discounts and refunds are attributable.

- A second machine or tablet that can take payments if the main one fails mid-day.

## How is retail stock kept honest?

Retail is where salon margins quietly leak. Product used in a treatment, product sold to a client and product taken home by staff all reduce the same shelf, and unless the till and the stock list are the same system they drift apart within weeks. By the time a count is done, nobody can reconstruct which of the three it was.

The fix is not more paperwork. It is one system where a sale, a treatment and an internal usage entry all reduce stock, plus named logins so an adjustment has a person attached to it. Counting then becomes a check rather than an investigation.

## How should commission be calculated without arguments?

Commission disputes are almost always a data problem. A booking recorded against the wrong stylist, a walk-in charged without one selected, a product sale attributed to whoever happened to be at the till. Each is small; at month end they are an argument.

Getting this right is mostly configuration rather than new software. Make stylist selection mandatory at the point of charge, keep named logins so the till can attribute the sale, and produce the commission report from the same system that took the money rather than from a spreadsheet rebuilt each month.

## How private are client records in a salon?

More sensitive than most owners assume. A salon holds phone numbers, treatment history, allergy and patch-test notes, and often before-and-after photographs. Photographs of a client are personal data, and a folder of them on a shared phone or a reception desktop is the most common weak point we find.

They belong in the salon's system with access limited to the staff who need them, not on a personal device. Anything reachable from outside the salon should require multi-factor authentication, Microsoft explains [how that works](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/authentication/concept-mfa-howitworks), and cloud-held records should be backed up independently, because a deletion inside the system is not something the system will undo for you. Microsoft's own guidance on [Microsoft 365 Backup](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/backup/backup-overview) makes the same distinction.

## What breaks most often in a salon?

- The card terminal, usually because it shares a congested network with guest Wi-Fi.

- The front-desk computer, because it is the oldest machine and runs all day.

- Wi-Fi at the back of the salon, where the single access point at the front does not reach.

- The printer, which is nearly always a driver or queue problem rather than hardware.

- Stock counts, when the till and the stock list are two different systems.

- Staff access, when a leaver's login still works because offboarding was verbal.

## Setting up a salon that runs itself on a busy Saturday

We begin with a free assessment during trading hours, because a salon at ten in the morning and a salon at seven in the evening are different networks. That establishes what the front desk needs, whether coverage reaches the whole floor, and which single failure would stop you taking money.

Projects are quoted as a fixed scope, from AED 2,500 to AED 30,000 depending on requirement. Support is a fixed monthly fee with written response times, and because salon hours are not office hours, the helpdesk runs 24/7 with engineers on site across Dubai. If you run more than one branch, [multi-location support](https://listonics.com/it-support-multi-location-businesses-uae/) keeps them configured the same way.

Support is priced per computer and per user rather than by the hour, so a busy month does not produce a bigger bill than a quiet one; [IT support cost in Dubai](https://listonics.com/it-support-cost-dubai/) sets out what changes the figure. Where a salon is being fitted out, we would rather be involved before the ceiling closes, because the front-desk position, the cabling to it and the access-point locations are all cheaper to decide on a drawing than to correct afterwards.

If you are weighing the decision behind this rather than the support, our guide on [getting salon POS, stock and commission to agree](https://listonics.com/blog/salon-pos-stock-commission-dubai/) goes into the detail an assessment would cover.

## Frequently asked questions

### Our salon software is from the supplier. Do you work with it?

Yes. We look after everything the software depends on, the connection, the network, the computers, the printers and the logins, and we liaise with your software supplier when the fault is in their system rather than guessing. You keep one number to call either way.

### Can you make the front-desk computer faster without replacing it?

Often, yes. Most slow front desks are slow because of a mechanical hard drive, too little memory, or years of accumulated software starting at login. Replacing a drive with an SSD is usually the single biggest improvement and costs far less than a new machine.

### We keep client before-and-after photos on a staff phone. Is that a problem?

It is the most common weakness we see. Those photographs are personal data about a client, sitting on a device the salon does not control and cannot wipe when that person leaves. They should be in the salon's own system with restricted access, and the phone folder cleared once they are moved.

### How do we stop a former stylist accessing the booking system?

With a written offboarding step rather than a verbal one. On the day someone leaves, their named login is disabled, shared passwords they knew are changed, and access is checked rather than assumed. Our [employee offboarding checklist](https://listonics.com/blog/employee-offboarding-it-checklist/) sets out the sequence.

### Do we need separate Wi-Fi for clients?

Yes, and it is straightforward. Client Wi-Fi should be a separate network from the till, the computers and any staff devices, with a bandwidth limit so heavy use cannot slow a payment. It costs nothing extra on equipment that supports it, which most business access points do.

### We are opening a second branch. What should be the same?

The logins, the security settings, the software versions and the network design. Branches that are set up differently need supporting differently, which is where the cost goes. Deciding the standard once and applying it to the second site is considerably cheaper than reconciling two later.
