# IT Support for Retail Shops in Dubai

Networks that keep payment terminals online, guest Wi-Fi that touches nothing else, and branches built to one standard rather than one at a time.

Quick answer

In a retail shop the network is the till. A dropped connection stops payment, and it happens at the busiest hour rather than a convenient one. Support means a separated network where guest Wi-Fi cannot reach payment or back office, a failover path, and cover across trading hours including evenings and weekends.

> Best team I’ve ever hired. All in one place.
>
> As a construction company, we have a lot to manage, so finding one team that can handle our IT and digital requirements has been really helpful. Listonics has supported us with office networking, cybersecurity, website development and SEO. Their team knows what they’re doing and has been easy to work with. We no longer need to coordinate with different companies for every requirement, which saves us time and effort. Overall, it’s been a good experience, and we’re happy to have them supporting our business.

> We needed a custom ERP and HR system for our business, along with a new website, and Listonics helped us with all three. The team was approachable, listened to what we wanted and made the process easier than we expected. We could discuss changes directly with them, which made a big difference. It was also convenient having one team handle everything instead of dealing with multiple companies. Overall, we’re happy with how things turned out and glad we chose them.

Listonics projects run from AED 2,500 to AED 30,000 as a fixed scope; support is a fixed monthly fee with response times written into the agreement. The [IT support cost guide](https://listonics.com/it-support-cost-dubai/) and [managed IT pricing guide](https://listonics.com/managed-it-services-pricing-dubai/) set out how the numbers are built.

## Why is retail IT different from office IT?

An office loses productivity when the network drops. A shop or a restaurant loses the sale in front of it, at the hour it can least afford to, and the queue does not wait for a callback on Monday. Restaurants and cafés share most of these problems, with kitchen systems and delivery tablets on top, and we cover them in [IT support for restaurants in Dubai](https://listonics.com/it-support-restaurants-dubai/).

The hours are different too. Trading runs into evenings and weekends, which is precisely when standard business-hours IT support is unavailable. And the mix of equipment is wider: payment terminals, kitchen displays, digital menus, CCTV, music systems and guest Wi-Fi all share one connection unless someone designed it otherwise.

- Support across trading hours, not office hours.

- Payment terminals on their own network, isolated from everything else.

- Guest Wi-Fi that reaches the internet and nothing internal.

- A failover path, because a dead line stops trading.

- The same build at every branch, so a fix works everywhere.

## How should the network be separated?

A single flat network with everything on it is the most common setup and the most expensive one to have when something goes wrong. Payment devices, back-office machines, operational equipment and customer Wi-Fi each need their own segment.

The separation is not primarily about speed, it is about blast radius. A compromised digital signage player or a guest's laptop should be unable to see a payment terminal or the back-office PC at a network level, not merely lack the password.

## What does guest Wi-Fi need to do?

Work reliably, reach nothing internal, and not consume the connection the tills depend on. That means its own segment, a bandwidth limit, and a separate name from the staff network.

Capacity planning matters more than in an office, because a full restaurant is a dense room of phones all connecting at once. The [Wi-Fi Alliance sets out what current-generation certification covers](https://www.wi-fi.org/discover-wi-fi/wi-fi-certified-6) for that kind of density, and our [Wi-Fi installation](https://listonics.com/wifi-installation-dubai/) page covers the survey.

## How do you keep several branches consistent?

By building them from one design rather than one at a time. Branches that each grew their own way produce a support problem that multiplies: every visit starts with working out what this site has.

One template for the network, the same equipment, the same naming, one Microsoft 365 tenant and one set of security settings means a fix developed at one branch applies at all of them. Our [multi-location IT support](https://listonics.com/it-support-multi-location-businesses-uae/) page covers running that across sites, and municipal requirements for fit-out works are published by [Dubai Municipality](https://www.dm.gov.ae/).

- One network template applied at every branch.

- The same equipment and naming, so documentation transfers.

- One tenant, one set of security settings, one support agreement.

- A documented site pack per branch, so a visit starts from fact.

## What breaks most often in a shop or a restaurant?

The faults are consistent across sites, and almost none of them are the till software everyone blames first.

Connectivity is the leading cause: a single line with no failover, or a router supplied by the provider doing duty as a business firewall. Then physical conditions, which offices never face in the same way. Equipment cabinets in kitchens and stockrooms run hot and collect grease or dust, and a switch in an unventilated cupboard behind a kitchen has a short life. Cabling takes a beating in back-of-house areas where trolleys and deliveries pass, so runs need protecting rather than draping.

The third is change nobody recorded. A new terminal added by a supplier, a router swapped during a refit, an extra access point plugged in to fix a dead spot. Each is reasonable alone, and together they produce a site nobody can support quickly because no document matches what is there.

- A single internet line with no failover, or a provider router used as a firewall.

- Cabinets in kitchens and stockrooms running hot, dusty or greasy.

- Cabling in back-of-house areas damaged by trolleys and deliveries.

- Equipment added by suppliers and never recorded.

- Guest Wi-Fi sharing the connection the tills depend on.

## What about new store openings?

A new branch is a small new office fit-out with a shorter timeline and less forgiveness, because an opening date is fixed and public. The internet line is the long pole here as everywhere, and it is ordered as soon as the lease allows.

Cabling goes in before the fit-out closes, the network is built from the branch template rather than designed afresh, and the site is tested before the opening rather than on it. Our [new office IT requirements](https://listonics.com/new-office-it-requirements-dubai/) page sets out the full list.

## Tills, stock and Wi-Fi that hold up at peak

We cover the infrastructure: cabling, network and Wi-Fi designed for trading conditions, segmentation so payment and guest traffic never meet, failover internet, Microsoft 365 for the back office, backup and support with written response times. Engineers work on site across the UAE and the support line runs 24/7.

We do not supply or support point-of-sale software itself, which is a specialist platform with its own vendor; we make the network it depends on reliable and work alongside that vendor. A [free site assessment](https://listonics.com/contact/) covers the network, segmentation and failover at one branch or across all of them.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do you support point-of-sale systems?

Not as the POS vendor. We make the network, connectivity and security your terminals depend on reliable, and coordinate with your POS provider when an issue sits between the platform and the network. That covers most till problems, which are connectivity rather than software.

### Can guest Wi-Fi slow down our payment terminals?

On a flat network, yes, and it commonly does at peak times. Guest traffic should sit on its own segment with a bandwidth limit so it cannot consume the connection trading depends on, and should be unable to reach payment or back-office systems at all.

### Do you cover evenings and weekends?

Yes. The support line runs 24/7, and for retail and F&B the coverage that matters is written into the agreement rather than assumed, because the busiest trading hours are exactly when standard business-hours support is unavailable.

### How do you handle several branches?

By building each from one template so the network, equipment and security settings match. That means a fix developed at one site applies everywhere, and a visit to an unfamiliar branch starts from documentation rather than discovery. One agreement can cover all of them.

### What do we need for a new store opening?

An internet line ordered as early as the lease allows, cabling installed before the fit-out closes, the branch network built from your existing template, and everything tested before opening day rather than on it. The line is almost always the item that decides whether the date holds.
