# Structured Cabling in Dubai

## The foundation everything runs on

**Structured Cabling:** Structured cabling is the standardised, documented network wiring of a building: CAT6 or CAT6A copper runs to every desk and access point, a rack with patch panels, optional fibre backbone, and certified testing and labelling of every port, the physical foundation every office network runs on.

Every network is only as good as the cabling underneath it. Done well, it disappears into the building for fifteen years. Done badly, it is the reason the meeting room drops calls and nobody can find which port goes where.

Listonics installs structured cabling to standard: CAT6 or CAT6A runs, patch panels terminated properly, a tidy rack, and every port tested and labelled. We work with your fit-out contractor so the cable containment and routes are planned, not improvised. Cabling has to outlast the wireless it carries, and the [Wi-Fi Alliance explains what Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 adds](https://www.wi-fi.org/discover-wi-fi/wi-fi-certified-7).

You get a full port map and the test results, so any engineer in future can understand the office in minutes.

> Best team I’ve ever hired. All in one place.
>
> As a construction company, we have a lot to manage, so finding one team that can handle our IT and digital requirements has been really helpful. Listonics has supported us with office networking, cybersecurity, website development and SEO. Their team knows what they’re doing and has been easy to work with. We no longer need to coordinate with different companies for every requirement, which saves us time and effort. Overall, it’s been a good experience, and we’re happy to have them supporting our business.

> We needed a custom ERP and HR system for our business, along with a new website, and Listonics helped us with all three. The team was approachable, listened to what we wanted and made the process easier than we expected. We could discuss changes directly with them, which made a big difference. It was also convenient having one team handle everything instead of dealing with multiple companies. Overall, we’re happy with how things turned out and glad we chose them.

Listonics projects run from AED 2,500 to AED 30,000 as a fixed scope; support is a fixed monthly fee with response times written into the agreement. The [IT support cost guide](https://listonics.com/it-support-cost-dubai/) and [managed IT pricing guide](https://listonics.com/managed-it-services-pricing-dubai/) set out how the numbers are built.

## What we get called in to fix

- Cabling installed by the previous tenant's contractor, with no labels, no test results and no drawing.

- Points that were moved once during a refit and terminated to nothing, so half the outlets are dead.

- Cable run alongside power without separation, producing intermittent faults nobody can reproduce.

- A patch panel that was never labelled, turning a five-minute change into a half-day of tracing.

- Cabling added after the ceilings closed, visible along walls at several times the cost of first fix.

## Who needs this

New fit-outs, refurbishments and older offices with undocumented or failing wiring; landlords and tenants who need certified, labelled cabling before handover.

## What we deliver:

- CAT6 / CAT6A data cabling to every desk, meeting room and access point.

- Server or network rack with patch panels and cable management.

- Fibre backbone between floors or buildings where needed.

- Certification testing and labelling of every point.

- As-built documentation and port map.

## Neat is not cosmetic

A tidy rack and labelled ports are the difference between a five-minute fix and an afternoon of guessing. We build every install so someone who has never seen it can maintain it.

## What is in scope, and what is not

In scope: a cabling design from the floor plan and the desk layout, containment agreed with the fit-out contractor, Cat6 or Cat6A installed to the standard -- the [Cat6 versus Cat6A guide](https://listonics.com/blog/cat6-vs-cat6a-office-cabling/) explains when each is the right choice -- every point tested and certified, a labelled patch panel and outlets, and an as-built drawing you keep. Fibre between floors or buildings where distance or bandwidth requires it. Points for cameras, door readers and sensors are designed in at this stage too, because [connected devices](https://listonics.com/services/iot/) need power over Ethernet and a known route back to a switch, and adding them after the ceilings close costs several times more.

Not in scope: the active equipment that plugs into it, which is the [network and Wi-Fi](https://listonics.com/services/network-and-wifi/) service, although the two are usually scoped together because one is useless without the other. Pricing is by the point and the run, itemised, and the [cabling cost](https://listonics.com/structured-cabling-cost-dubai/) page sets out what moves it.

### How pricing works

Priced per certified data point plus rack, patch panels, fibre backbone and containment, quoted as a fixed scope after a site visit. CAT6A and fibre cost more than CAT6; out-of-hours installation is quoted upfront.

### How implementation works

1. **Consult**, a free site survey and a conversation about headcount, floor plan and what is already in place.

2. **Design & source**, a fixed-scope proposal with equipment listed item by item.

3. **Install**, delivered, tested and documented on site, usually outside working hours.

4. **Manage**, monitoring, helpdesk and monthly management under a support plan, or on-call support if you prefer.

## What to compare when choosing a provider

- Are response and on-site targets written down by priority?

- Is the quote a fixed scope, itemised, or hourly?

- Who attends site, employed engineers or subcontractors?

- Which business-grade brands are proposed, and why those?

- Will you receive documentation you own, diagrams, accounts, port maps?

- What exactly is excluded, and what does it cost when it happens?

## Frequently asked questions

### CAT6 or CAT6A?

CAT6 is sufficient for most offices today; CAT6A gives headroom for 10-gigabit and Wi-Fi 6E/7 access points. We recommend based on your plans, not the higher price.

### Can you cable an occupied office?

Yes. We schedule work outside hours and in phases so your team keeps working.

### Do you handle the rack and switches too?

Yes, cabling, rack, switches and firewall are usually delivered together as part of a network installation.

### Do you provide test certificates?

Every point is tested and you receive the results, which is often required by landlords and auditors.

### Cat6 or Cat6A for a new office?

For most offices Cat6 is adequate and Cat6A costs more to install because it is thicker and stiffer. Cat6A earns its place where you expect to need higher speeds to the desk over the life of the fit-out, or for the runs to access points, which increasingly benefit from it. We usually recommend Cat6A to the access points and Cat6 to the desks.

### Can you certify the cabling for our landlord or a client?

Yes. Every point is tested with a certifier and the results are provided as a report, along with the as-built drawing. Landlords and larger clients increasingly ask for this, and it is the difference between cabling that is documented and cabling that is merely present.

### Our office is already fitted out. Is it too late?

No, but it costs more and looks worse. Cabling can be added to a finished office using surface containment or above-ceiling routes where access exists. It is a legitimate option when the alternative is living with dead points, and it is the reason we push so hard to be involved before the ceilings close.
