Temporary satellite internet in Dubai

A working internet line for an event, a site office or a new office that is still waiting for fibre, set up on a temporary mount, tied into a proper network and taken down when the job ends.

Quick answer

Temporary satellite internet gives an event, a site or a new office a working line in days where a fixed line would take weeks or cannot be laid at all. Listonics surveys the sky view, sets the dish on a temporary mount, builds the network around it, and removes it afterwards. The hardware and plan are ordered in your name.

Best team I’ve ever hired. All in one place.

As a construction company, we have a lot to manage, so finding one team that can handle our IT and digital requirements has been really helpful. Listonics has supported us with office networking, cybersecurity, website development and SEO. Their team knows what they’re doing and has been easy to work with. We no longer need to coordinate with different companies for every requirement, which saves us time and effort. Overall, it’s been a good experience, and we’re happy to have them supporting our business.

We needed a custom ERP and HR system…

We needed a custom ERP and HR system for our business, along with a new website, and Listonics helped us with all three. The team was approachable, listened to what we wanted and made the process easier than we expected. We could discuss changes directly with them, which made a big difference. It was also convenient having one team handle everything instead of dealing with multiple companies. Overall, we’re happy with how things turned out and glad we chose them.

Listonics projects run from AED 2,500 to AED 30,000 as a fixed scope; support is a fixed monthly fee with response times written into the agreement. The IT support cost guide and managed IT pricing guide set out how the numbers are built.

When does temporary satellite internet make sense?

Whenever the need is short and the cable is slow. A fixed line needs a provider order, a route into the building and an install date, and none of that suits a three-day event, a site office that will move in six months, or a tenant who gets the keys before the fibre is live. A satellite dish needs a clear view of the sky and power, and little else.

These are the cases we see most often.

  • Outdoor events, desert and beach venues, and exhibition stands that need their own line.
  • Construction site offices and yards where fibre has not been pulled yet.
  • A new office that opens before the provider's install date.
  • Pop-up shops, show apartments and seasonal venues.
  • A stand-in line while a damaged fibre is repaired.

Can you hire or rent satellite internet?

The plain answer: we do not rent out dishes. Listonics is an installer and integrator, not a reseller, so the hardware and the plan are ordered in your name directly from Starlink, whose business pages set out the plans currently on offer. Check there for the term that suits a short deployment before you order.

What you hire from us is the work: the survey, a temporary mount, power and cabling, the network around the dish, an engineer through the period if you need one, and the removal at the end. The advantage of owning the kit is that it is yours for the next event or the next site, and we can redeploy it for you each time. Our Starlink installation cost breakdown shows how the two bills split.

What we set up, and how fast

A dish on its own is an internet connection, not a network. We check the sky view first, because a tree line, a stage roof or a neighbouring tower can block it, and then place the dish on a mount that suits a temporary site: a weighted base, a pole or a clamp where the venue or landlord will not allow drilling.

From there we build what the people on site actually use: business-grade Wi-Fi sized for the number of devices, separate networks for staff, guests and payment terminals, and a cellular backup where the job justifies one. It is the same engineering as our permanent satellite internet and network and Wi-Fi work, built to come down cleanly. Equipment brought into the country for the job should hold TDRA type approval.

Events and exhibitions

Venue Wi-Fi is shared with every visitor in the hall, so anything that matters, a live stream, card payments, registration, a product demo, should not depend on it. A dedicated satellite line gives a stand or an outdoor event its own connection, and at a serviced venue it works as the backup that takes over if the house line fails.

This is one part of our event and exhibition IT support, which covers the network, cameras and on-site engineers around it. If the event also has a stage, the stream and the show are planned together with our event stage, AV and decor team.

Construction sites and remote locations

A site office is the classic case: the project starts months before any fixed line reaches the plot, and a mobile hotspot was never meant to carry drawings, video calls and a day's email for a whole team. A satellite line with proper Wi-Fi in the cabins turns the site office into a working office from the first week.

The dish moves with the project. When the cabins are relocated or the job finishes, the same kit goes to the next site. Our guide to construction site office internet covers the wider setup, including power, dust and securing the equipment.

A new office that is waiting for fibre

Keys in hand, staff ready, and an internet install date that is still some way off: it is one of the most common problems in a Dubai office move. A temporary satellite line lets the office open on the day planned, with the firewall and Wi-Fi already configured the way they will run permanently.

When the fibre arrives, nothing is thrown away. The fibre becomes the main line and the satellite link stays as the automatic backup, which is how most offices end up using it anyway. It fits naturally into a new office IT setup, where the internet order is usually the longest lead time on the plan.

Removal, and what you keep

At the end of the event or the project we take down the mount, recover the cabling, wipe any device that held guest or payment data, and hand back a clean site. You keep the dish and the account, and a short record of how it was set up so the next deployment is quicker.

If you have dates and a location, tell us what you need and we will say plainly whether a satellite line is the right answer for it, or whether a cellular router would do the job for less.

Frequently asked questions

No, we do not rent out hardware. The dish and plan are ordered in your name from Starlink, and we provide the survey, temporary mount, network setup, on-site cover and removal. For organisers who run several events a year this usually works out better, because the kit is yours and we simply redeploy it each time.

Once the hardware is in hand, a simple site can be surveyed and running within a day or two. Larger events, sites that need power brought to the dish, or setups with a full Wi-Fi network and backup line take longer to plan. The delivery time of the hardware itself is set by Starlink, so order early.

Those are the best cases for it, because the sky is open and there is no fixed line to compete with. The things to plan are power, a stable mount on soft ground, and protecting the equipment from heat and sand. We survey the location first, since a stage roof or structure can block the dish.

For most events, yes, provided the network behind it is built properly. We keep the stream, payment terminals and guest Wi-Fi on separate networks so one cannot starve the others, and we recommend a cellular backup for anything that cannot drop. Heavy rain can degrade a satellite link, which is the reason for the backup.

We remove the mount and cabling, wipe any devices that held guest or payment data, and return the site clean. The dish and the Starlink account remain yours. Many clients keep the kit for the next event or site, or have us install it permanently as a backup line for their office.
